Additional Information

Science Centre Singapore was opened on 10 December 1977 by Dr Toh Chin Chye, the Minister in charge of the Science Centre Board at that time. The wheels for a world-acclaimed Science Centre started turning in 1969 when the Government decided to convert the National Museum into an art and historical museum and build a new institution devoted to scientific and technological education on the advice of the Science Council of Singapore. The Science Centre building was designed by Mr Raymond Woo and rests on a 10-hectare site and comprises of the Main Building, the Annexe Building, Outdoor Gardens, Omni-Theatre and Snow City. The Omni-Theatre, Singapore’s only IMAX dome theatre, was established in 1987. The iconic theatre brought a new dimension to the learning of Science through larger-than-life documentaries and films that provide an immersive experience for all. The educational films cover genres including science, space, nature, animals, marine life, culture, natural disasters and more.
