Ekorian Mugie Camp - Profile

General Information

Ekorianís Mugie Camp is semi-permant and was designed, and then built by a small team of carpenters and tailors, with a common goal to make as small of an impact on the environment as possible. The camp operates on solar power with specially designed water boilers. Because the camp is solar powered itís lovely and peaceful without the constant hum of a generator. Ekorian is eco-rated and we embody this in all aspects of our camp; from solar power to boiled and filtered rainwater and reusable water bottles to community outreach programs. Herds of game, like elephant, giraffe, buffalo, zebra, etc often wander past camp and we love seeing them as we relax or enjoy a delicious meal in the mess. In the evenings, entertainment frequently comes in the form of four different owls and bush babies in camp and we can hear lions roaring and heyenas laughing in the distance. Around the fire, is the perfect way to enjoy a chilly night, and a brisk morning game drive before a hearty breakfast is a great way to start the day.

Additional Information

Mugie is situated 293 km north of Nairobi, Kenyaís capital city where Jomo Kenyatta International Airport has daily flights to destinations across Europe. London to Nairobi is an eight hour direct flight with a three hour time difference. Direct flights are available from the international airport to Mugieís private airstrip. Please contact us for further details. Many visitors combine a wildlife safari on Mugie with time at the coast enjoying the Indian Ocean. Flights available from the airstrip to Mombasa, Lamu, Malindi and other destinations. Mugie can coordinate any of your travel needs. Mutamaiyu House is perched on a hilltop with panoramic views of the savannah. Described by a visitor as "Heaven on a Hill" this magnificent family-owned house is named after the ancient grove of twisting olive trees that grow around it. The house boasts a lavish sitting room, high ceilinged verandas and a large dining room situated in a prime viewing area for the waterhole below where day and night the interaction of wildlife present a wonderful spectacle. A short walk through the impeccable gardens takes you to a cliff-top swimming pool and bar with stunning views. Mutamaiyu comfortably accommodates 12 guests in six African style cottages, traditionally thatched using "makuti" (palm leaves) over a vaulted wooden frame. Our spacious cottages, all with en-suite bathrooms (including both shower and bath) have a comfortable sitting area with a log fire.
