Lions Bluff Lodge - Profile

General Information

Secluded within its own 125,000-acre private conservancy, Lumo Community Wildlife Sanctuary, Lions Bluff eco lodge was conceived and built by the local Taita community. Simply built from sustainable timber, the lodge features a safari bar, viewing terrace and community handicrafts boutique. Here, the descendants of the famous Tsavo lions breed amongst the rocky bluffs. No ordinary lions, these brave and highly intelligent lions are the descendants of a pair of notorious lions known as The Ghost and the Darkness. The killers of 30 workers on the so-called 'Lunatic Express' railway in 1898, these two man-eaters now stand in the Smithsonian Institute in New York and were the inspiration for a movie entitled 'The Ghost and the Darkness'.

Additional Information

Part of the ecosystem of Kenya’s largest game park, Tsavo, Lions Bluff clings to the edge of a bluff suspended above the 125,000 acre Lumo Community Wildlife Sanctuary. Stay in a small, unique lodge of sustainable timber, canvas and traditional coconut thatch. Sip sundowners on an open terrace with Kilimanjaro as the back drop, followed by dinner overlooking a small water hole visited by a family of elephants. Stunning panoramic views over the golden green savannah rolling away to the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro, the North and South Pare mountains and the Taita Hills. Secluded in Lumo Community Wildlife Sanctuary amidst peace and quiet, yet easily accessible from Mombasa and Nairobi. Exclusive, just twelve traditionally-built ensuite bandas from whose verandahs you can literally overlook wildlife, going about their daily life undisturbed.
