Gravetye Manor - Profile

General Information

This peaceful XVIth century Elizabethan manor in William Robinsonís Natural English garden is surrounded by a forest, yet only 30 miles from London. Relax in oak panelled sitting rooms warmed by open log fires and furnished with antiques. Every bedroom enjoys vistas of the tranquil gardens. Dine by candlelight, savouring classical British dishes, home-grown vegetables and fruits, with wines from one of Britainís finest cellars. The gardens at Gravetye Manor are a very special place and can be considered amongst the most influential in English gardening history. The manor became the home of the creative, innovative and revolutionary gardener, William Robinson in 1884. Robinson spent his remarkable life as a professional gardener and botanist, but made his fortune through writing about his experiences and ideas on horticulture. His most notable works include The English Flower Garden, which is one of the best-selling horticultural books of all time, and the hugely influential title, The Wild Garden.

Additional Information

The 17 bedrooms and suites at Gravetye are named after tree species found on the estate. Rich fabrics, fine antiques and hand crafted beds emphasise the classical beauty of the interiors, whilst floral themes bring the garden into the manor. All our rooms are individually furnished, providing the highest standards of comfort and are all equipped with flat screen televisions and iPod docking stations. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel, no complicated passwords, no hidden extra charges.
