Woodland Muangmai - Profile

General Information

Woodland,is a fantasy realm that tells a story of Grandfather Teak, an ancient tree that could feel and perceive his surroundings, and his descendants, who bring us to the realm of the woodmen at the edge between Earth and Heaven. The story of the woodmen is portrayed through thousands of intricate woodcarvings from the collection of Narong Thewphaingarm and his ancestors. The collection is on display in several wood buildings along the Nakhon Chai Sri River, which is the hometown of the Thewphaingarm family. ‘Grandfather Teak’, the main character of the narrative, was inspired by the true life story of Kamnun Rasri, Narong’s father, who had a great appreciation for nature, art and story-telling. Narong is married to Usa Thewphaingarm and together they have two children: Dr. Nahathai Thewphaingarm and Dr. Nattakrit Thewphaingarm. The Woodland project is built on more than 100 rai of land and divided into three different zones: The Story of Woodland, with the woodcarving displays, Woodland Village (an area for restaurants and souvenirs), and The Resort, with 31 guestrooms, which was the former residence of the Thewphaingarm family. The project also has a seminar hall, which holds more than 150 participants, a Cathedral – one of the largest wood cathedrals in the world, an ancient stone garden – and several other areas for various activities, including lunch and dinner cruises, stork-watching during their winter migration, and a Thai Gondola ride. With faith and courage, they travel through this fantastical realm into the Kingdom of the Creator of the Universe.
