Brackenwood Vineyard - Profile

General Information

Wines made by Brackenwood Vineyard are from grapes grown on our property. Every procedure is meticulously carried out by hand, from pruning through to winemaking in small batches, in order to capture the essence of the property and deliver wine full of distinct character. This means our annual production is never over 1,500 precious cases. We also strictly adhere to biodynamic winemaking principles – from growing our grapes to making wine. We believe this is the ultimate form of sustainable production, working in harmony with natural ecosystems. Ultimately, the principle behind biodynamics is to promote the health of the vineyard's environment, and so prevent problems from occurring, rather than treating problems as they arise. At a time when a wine can contain over 200 different man-made chemicals, we at Brackenwood Vineyard pride ourselves on promoting the natural health of our vineyard. This means or vines are naturally more able to withstand pests and diseases and produce the best quality grapes. Whilst we wholeheartedly believe in the biodynamic winemaking philosophy, the real benefit has to be in the enjoyment of the wines themselves. Using the biodynamic principles allows us to capture regional character and delightful vintage nuances. This comes from handpicking our grapes in small batches, which are then wild fermented using our vineyard’s indigenous yeasts. We do not add factory-produced yeasts, acids or tannins. This allows our wines to develop to their natural full potential. Our vines grow on a variety of undulating slopes, 360-400m above sea level, in soils that are ironstone and quartz over clay subsoil. We hope that you will enjoy our wines as much as we did making them.
