Oldarpoi Mara Camp is a safari camp just outside the gates of the Masai Mara Game reserve. The camp is solely owned by the local Masai community and aims to bring transformational development socially and economically to the local Masai communities, turning them into self-reliant and self-sustaining communities, through profitable eco-tourism activities. The camp is built with all the comforts of home, including solar-heated showers, bed with pillows, sheets, blankets, mosquito nets, and porches with armchairs. Oldarpoi Maasai Camp is on the edge of one of the world's greatest wildlife safari parks.
In line with the its advocated eco-tourism concepts, the camp has a comprehensive solar system through funding by the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany.
It is built with all the comforts of home, including bathrooms ensuite with flush toilets, hot showers, beds with pillows, sheets, blankets and mosquito nets, and porches with armchairs. Additionally, as a backup, a standby generator that supplies lights and refrigeration for the dining area allows cellphones and digital cameras to be recharged. Oldarpoi Mara Camp is affiliated to I See Maasai Development Initiative (ISMDI). This is an organization whose mission is to empower the Maasai economically advocating for education and by leading a campaign to eradicate such practices as female genital mutilation (FGM)
Oldarpoi and ISMDI are committed to pursuing holistic development projects, where jobs are created and local income generated; healthcare and education programs are initiated; environment is preserved; harmful traditional practices are discouraged; and clean water is made available to all.
ISMDI on the other hand, handles the accruing profits, by ploughing it into sustainable development projects in the community.
