Orange Title Sponsor of the 3rd Kenya Golf Trophy

Nairobi (Kenya) - August 9, 2014 - Integrated telecommunications solutions provider Orange Kenya will be the title sponsor for the third edition of the Kenya Golf Trophy (KGT). Announcing the KSh 6 million sponsorship for the October 10, 2014 tournament at the Muthaiga Golf Club, company CEO Mickael Ghossein says that Orange will be maintaining a strategic presence in sports in Kenya.

“Orange already has a very firm presence in the country’s and continent’s hockey scene through the Orange Ladies Hockey Team that has held an iron grip of the National Hockey League Women’s title for the last 16 years.” This team will also be defending the Continental Club Champions title later this year; a title that has been won on six different occasions.

“We therefore see our association with Golf as yet another strategic avenue to affirm our presence in sports and grow Golf, especially among the upcoming players in the country,” Mr. Ghossein adds.

Launched three years ago, the Kenya Golf Trophy is an initiative of Tobs Cohen, Owner of Tobs Kenya Golf Safaris, Travel & Events. This company, which was founded 23 years ago by its owner, has a mission to promote Kenya as a world class golf tourism destination. As a result Kenya won the most prestigious award as the best undiscovered golf destination in the world, by IAGTO, the International Association of Golf Tour Operators for the year 2009.

On August 1, 2014 the Kenya Golf Union has officially accredited Tobs Kenya Golf Safaris, Travel & Events to run and manage Golf Events, while taking golf in Kenya to another level.

The Orange Kenya Golf Trophy has grown to become the biggest corporate amateur golf tournament in Africa, attracting tens of sponsors and hundreds of golfers, year on year.

The Kenya Golf Trophy takes up the gauntlet as yet another avenue to promote Kenya’s profile as a superb golf destination. International players will also participate for the more than 20 high value prizes together with Kenyan golfers, including those who have finished as winners runner-up from two qualifying rounds this August at Muthaiga Golf Club and Royal Nairobi Golf Club respectively. The winner of last year’s Kenya Golf Trophy, held at Royal Nairobi Golf Club, Humphrey Maina of Kiambu Golf Club, will come and defend his title at Muthaiga Golf Club.

The main prizes will be two Etihad Airways tickets to any destination in the world for the winner and runner-up respectively. The Orange Kenya Golf Trophy will continue to support to the Junior Golf Foundation (JGF), through a hole-in-one shoot-out over the lake on the thirteenth hole and from an auction for holiday vouchers. The four best junior golf players in the order of merit are invited to compete in the Kenya Golf Trophy. “The development of young golfing talent is paramount if we are to see a Kenyan on the leader board of one of the major PGA tours,” says Mr. Tobs Cohen, the Tournament Director and Event Organizer.
